Abstract
From nearly two decades of open conflict, pro football has finally transformed into labor-management peace. The transition, worked out between the NFL and NFLPA, is enabling the sport to capitalize on its strengths of marketing and league expansion. This article discusses the changes in terms of a model of workplace relations, noting strikes, free agency, court cases, and provisions of the current collective bargaining agreement. A version of this article was presented at a conference at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, in October 1997.This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 United States License.
