Abstract
The concentration of population in the traditional water settlement of Kampong Ayer, Brunei Darussalam, brings about its own unique problem of waste and garbage production and disposal. The lack of waste disposal facilities has meant that all of the wastes are discharged into the surrounding waters of the Brunei River. This article examines the output of garbage by households based on a sample survey and the environmental implications for river water quality. Though the river quality has not deteriorated greatly over the years, action must be taken soon to dispose of the garbage of the whole settlement in a proper way. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 United States License.
