Abstract
From 1977 until 1996, final offer arbitration was the default form of arbitration required to resolve intractable collective bargaining contract disputes between police and fire officers and their public employers. In 1996, the state changed the default form of arbitration to conventional arbitration. This article reviews the history of the New Jersey legislation on interest arbitration and evaluates the impact of the 1996 change. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 United States License.
