Abstract
The following report describes a male Southeast Asian adolescent who presented to a general medical clinic with psychogenic throat clearing and expectoration. In this case, knowledge of critical background information and current acculturation stress provided valuable insight into the patient's symptoms. This case also illustrates the power of cultural beliefs in both the interpretation and alleviation of conversion symptoms.
