Prevalence of low bone mass and osteoporosis affects significant percentage of men and women in U.S. 50 and older

National Osteoporosis Foundation has just released its latest report on America's Bone Health: The State of Osteoporosis and Low Bone Mass in Our Nation. According to new figures released in the report, osteoporosis and low bone mass are a major public health threat for approximately 55 percent of the U.S. population aged 50 and older, and in 2002, an estimated 14 million men and 30 million women among this population are at risk for osteoporosis and low bone mass. The report also estimated that the number of men and women at risk will rise to a total of 52 million in 2010 and 61 million in 2020.
