Abstract

School legislation which gives to school boards the right to appoint school administrators for a limited term and which, concurrently, gives to the teaching profession the power to make policies requiring its members not to accept such appointments, can place employees as members of the association in a conflict of interest predicament. Though the Alberta Teachers' Association holds the statutory right to discipline its members, its action was overruled by an Appeal Board which held that a professional association must act in the interest of the public as well as in that of the profession.
