Treatment of heart diseases is an art and one that the physician acquires during a lifetime of experience. However, the most effective treatment comes from an understanding of basic mechanisms responsible for heart disease and an appreciation of the relative benefits of various interventions and patient prognosis with and without specific treatment.

This preface statement by Willerson adequately describes the focus of this book. Treatment of Heart Diseases provides a comprehensive review of preventive therapy, medical treatment, and surgical treatment, including ablation techniques, antiarrhythmic devices, and open heart techniques. It is well referenced and beautifully illustrated, and it correlates recent clinical trials in a logical and well^thought-out manner.
